What is a LED Panel in virtual production?

SHOWRUNNER Software Walkthrough-low (1)

A modular array of LED lights designed to display video content. Originally designed for indoor/outdoor advertising, entertainment venues, and broadcast use, LED panels are now used to create volumes for motion picture cinematography.

LED panels allow filmmakers to capture high-quality images on set with less time and effort. In virtual production, LED walls are an adjustable backdrop to any scene. Additionally, filmmakers are able to control certain aspects of the set remotely, such as the brightness and contrast of the LED panel, adding a further layer of creative possibilities. By changing the color or lighting environment, directors can get the look they need without adding any other physical elements.

LED panels are also used in combination with green screens, allowing actors to interact directly with visual effects while shooting. This allows them to see what their final performance will look like before it goes through post-production. They also reduce the need for expensive tracking systems as they come with their own pixel-level tracking capabilities that work with traditional motion capture systems. By combining them with game engine technology, directors can build more believable worlds faster than ever before.
